PURE FUNK 1 BEGINNERS (13 years and over)
Rhythm and co-ordination is the main focus of this class. You will learn how to take control of your body, with an introduction to footwork, arm work, turns and floor work. Isolations of body parts are a major element of this class.
A Great place to start, if you have never taken a Funk / Hip-Hop dance class before or not for a long time.
Give your self a few weeks to get in the swing of things, relax, have fun and learn in a friendly environment where everyone is a beginner.
PURE FUNK 2 INTERMEDIATE (13 years and over)
A class that is designed for people that have had one or more years experience in funk / hip-hop dance.
Working towards a faster pace of music. At this stage you should know how to isolate all parts of your body. You will learn faster footwork, arm sequencing, turns, and combinations.
PURE FUNK 3 ADVANCED (13 years and over)
This class emphasis is on performance as well as different styles of funk. A class designed for people that have had a few years of training in Funk dance. It is essential that you are able to follow at a fast pace. Must have done at least 1 semester of a Flava intermediate Technique term. Unless selected by the teachers or directors.
MINI FLAVA'S
A class designed for 4–6 year olds. Teaching them rhythm and co-ordination through movement games, as well as Funk dance styles.
JUNIOR FUNK 1 BEGINNERS
A class designed for 7–12 years, teaching rhythm and co-ordination.
Learning how to move different parts of the body through isolations, footwork, arm work, turns and combinations. A routine will be taught in stages to music from popular pop artist that they love.
E.g. Ciara and Usher.
JUNIOR FUNK 2 INTERMEDIATE
A class designed for 7-12 years, teaching harder combinations. Students are expected to already have some background knowledge of certain Funk Technique before entering this class or at least one semester in a Flava Junior Funk beginners technique term.
JUNIOR FUNK 3 ADVANCED
11-15 years. Selected students in this class are taught faster and harder movements. They must have the ability to keep up with the rapid pace of routine.
Learning different funk styles and technique working on performance training.
STREET-JAZZ ADVANCED
This class is a combination of Jazz and Funk and is often used in musical theatre, commercials and film clips. This style is very sharp with a combination of fast and slow movement. Emphasis is on both stretching and technique. You will learn separate moves such as turns, pirouettes, jumps and leaps.
Must be at an advanced level of Jazz.
STREET-JAZZ BEGINNNERS / INTERMEDIATE
Emphasis is on technique, learning how to take control of the body, basic turns, jumps and leaps.
PERFORMANCE GROUPS
SCHOOL TEAM
By audition only. Must be in years 6 to 12 and at an advanced level of Funk and Hip-Hop. Will compete in National competitions.
FLAVA PERFORMANCE CREW
By audition only. A professional dance group consisting of both Male/Female (16 years and over).
Training in Funk routines which are then performed regularly throughout the year at corporate events and functions, T.V shows Film clips and clubs.
WHAT TO WEAR
Clothing that can breathe and stretch, track-suits, singlets etc…
NO skirts, shorts or jeans are allowed as it restricts you from certain movements.
Sneakers are a MUST!!! Jazz boots are only to be worn in Jazz classes.
Hair tied back away from face.
Must bring a drink bottle, it is important to keep hydrated at all times.
ADVANCED CLASSES
Selected students only. New students must start in an Intermediate or
Intermediate / Advanced classes, before attending an advanced class.
CONCERTS
All students have the opportunity to perform twice a year (Terms 2 & 4);
Mid-Year Demonstration Day in July and End of Year Production in December.
COSTUME LEVY
Parents do not have to make any costumes. Costumes are only for end of year concerts. Costs are kept down to a minimum, and are yours for keeps once it's paid for. All costumes are funky street wear.
